Creativity, Flexibility, Reliability
Your content is your connection between your organization and your audience. You need copy tailored to your purpose, backed by careful research and presented with attention to the style you’re looking for. My goal is to provide you with the content you’re looking for, written with professionalism and creativity, on time every time.
Who I Am
Hello! My name is Cassandra Clarke, though I’ve also written as Emily Clarke. I’m a freelance writer who’s worked on video games, novels, research papers, blogs, and other written ephemera that required a bit of wordsmithing.
Hiring a freelance writer is an important commitment, and it’s one I honor. You’re putting faith in a stranger’s ability to understand what you do and convey it in such a way that your audience will both understand it and feel enriched by it. You want all that on time, reliably, and done by someone who’s easy to work with. My goal is to be that person for every client who trusts me with their content.

My Content Writing Philosophy
Respect the Reader, Build Trust and Authority, Create Connections
- Good content respects the reader while it builds your brand. You want your content to bolster your authority, and attract an audience that will invest in you. You also want it to offer your readers value by educating and informing them.
- Content should simplify the complex. You have expertise in your field. Readers have limited time and thousands of articles vying for their attention. Good content should give them what they need in a quick and compelling manner that also shows your authority in your field.
- People want to do business with others who share their values. People are naturally attracted to businesses that share their attitudes. The approach, tone, and presentation of your content should reflect what makes your business unique. You have built it. Show them why they should come to you.
- Your content should build connections. Unique content that offers value and respects the reader will build your audience’s trust in your brand. It should understand what your reader wants and needs, and offer it to them in a clear and engaging manner.
Strong writing is more than a blog post with a few keywords sprinkled into it. It’s about giving your audience what they need. If you make your readers feel listened to and understood, and move away from a transactional vibe, they will want to be your loyal customers.

Experience
Video Games, Novels, Blog Content, Research

I have been a professional writer for nearly thirty years, stringing words together for varied and diverse professional projects that include video games, blogs, and novels. If asked, I would say that the hardest thing to write about is myself.
- Lore, copy, item and world descriptions, and related short pieces for online video games.
- Freelance blog content for a variety of topics, including HVAC, succulent husbandry, skincare, satellite television services, and more.
- Essays and papers for educational settings.
- Novels of various genres, especially romance, fantasy, and science fiction.

“I know more about HVAC after writing blog content than I ever expected to. It’s come in handy.”
Skillset
Strong Writing, Adaptable Tone, Research
Freelance writing offers me the challenge of adapting to the needs of an ever-changing audience through tone, voice, and content. I have a strong work ethic that drives me to produce the work my clients need correctly, on time, and with an open mind for revision and input. My goal is to be the freelancer people and organizations call on when they need a piece written right, even if it’s eclectic, difficult, or outright odd. My creativity is the tool I value most from my toolbox, and I want to wield it whenever I can.
- Write for the readers, optimize for the search engines. You want readers and your potential customers to find you. They want content they can sink their teeth into. I strike a balance between these needs.
- Thoroughly research all topics, even those I think I know about. I’m often asked to write about topics I know nothing about. My job is to become knowledgeable and present accurate content.
- Adapt tone and presentation to suit the needs of the piece. Some blogs require a familiar, best-friends voice that invites the audience into a confidence. Others require a formal, authoritative tone. My natural voice is “casual, knowledgeable friend” but that doesn’t limit what I can write. (This page is not my natural voice.)
- Be the freelance writer people want to work with. You want a reliable writer who is easy to work with and turns out consistently solid pieces. My goal is to be that writer.

Personal Interests
Congratulations on making it to the end! Portfolio pages are dry, I know. You’d think writers could do something about that. It’s just impossible to say, “I word good, please to hire” without sounding like an advertisement.
Writing is my thing. Writing has been my thing since I could draw letters, literally. I’ve been doing creative writing things since first grade. In addition, I love to read. My favorites are fantasy and science fiction. I’m also a gamer (give me all the Dark Souls), a knitter, and a serial crafter. I’ve started my own Etsy shop for my beaded works. I have a passion for photography.
I live with my husband and daughter in the Colorado Springs area, though we hope to move to Vermont. My husband and I enjoy hiking and exploring the area. My cat and dog keep me company while I sling words onto the page. The dog likes hiking. The cat does not.
Why I sometimes write as Emily: Long story, shortens to, “I was worried about my pen name including my actual first name, so I used my middle name for professional endeavors.” I’ve moved past that.
